The Treetop Residence

Set high above a canopy of green, this New York apartment already had strong bones: crown moldings, generous windows, and a light that shifts through the day. Our brief was to make it feel collected rather than decorated, so that each room reads as considered but never staged.

In the living room, a pair of arched built-ins now frames the balcony door and gives the wall architectural rhythm and a place for objects to live. A deep cognac leather sectional anchors the space. It is balanced by an ink-blue tufted lounge chair and a sculptural navy credenza whose carved fronts catch the light. Coastal photography in brass frames and a softly patterned wool rug keep the palette relaxed and open.

The dining area pairs the home's original terracotta tile with warm walnut. An oval pedestal table, a slim bench, and a matching console carry the same rounded, hand-finished language. Overhead, a cluster of smoked-glass globes adds a quiet glow. An earth-toned landscape canvas ties the room back to the kitchen's natural stone.

The primary bedroom is the calmest room in the home. A linen upholstered bed sits on a moss-green rug and is flanked by painted blue nightstands and pleated lamps. A long run of walnut dressers opposite gives serious storage without visual weight, and a round mirror brings the skyline back into the room.
